Ya know, sometimes you need to just shake things up (or challenge yourself) a bit when it comes to your health. I’ve said it before…I get bored and I need to make some adjustments every now and then. Whether it be exercise or an eating routine, little changes can make a BIG difference over time.
Challenges are good to do for yourself because they give you goals to work toward. If you make yourself constantly strive for something, this can keep you motivated, which I find is a common problem when losing weight or just trying to live healthy in general.
If you don’t believe challenging your health can help, just check out these 6 reasons below.
Challenging your health can:
1. Re-Motivate You
If you get bored like me, then you need to do something different every so many weeks or else you may find it harder to stick to your healthy lifestyle routine, whether it be finding a different exercise or choosing something new to eat, exploring new options can be exciting.
2. Get You Out of a Plateau
So – now what? You were moving along nicely with weight loss and now you’re stuck. The results either slowed down or stopped altogether. Trying something new with your body will force it to work harder to re-adapt to the routine. A term called general adaptation syndrome is how the body adapts to a physical stimulus. In other words, the more you do an exercise, for example, the more your body will adapt to get it done easier and better as time goes by. This could lead to a plateau where no more physiological changes occur.
3. Re-Evaluate Your Journey
You think you wanted to end up at a certain point, but as you continue on your health journey you realize maybe another path is waiting for you. But, in order to find that out you have to do things a bit differently along the way.
4. Get You Out of Your Comfort Zone
Many of us only stick with what we feel comfortable with. However, every once in a while it’s necessary to step outside of that comfort zone in order to progress. You can learn a lot about yourself by stepping outside of your comfort zone.
5. Inspire Someone Else
You never know who is watching. Yes, people are observing you live your new healthy lifestyle. They see you eat the same thing every day. Or see you run the same path every morning. Maybe they were interested in living better, too, but because they think living healthier is about eating and doing the same thing over and over, they become discouraged and remain uninspired and don’t even start.
But, maybe, just maybe, you introduce something fun and new into your lunch or fitness routine. Then that one discouraged and uninspired person may start to take notice and who knows…they may get up off the couch or come out of their cubicle and join you!
6. Teach You Something New
Think you know it all? Going through a challenge will bring you new knowledge about yourself that you didn’t think you’d ever discover. You may find out a fact about a certain food, learn you like a brand new food altogether, or uncover how you currently eat (even if it is healthy) is really the cause behind your “non”weight loss efforts. You can learn some new information that can make your journey become so much easier.
