Do you know that frozen bananas are DELICIOUS? And very versatile might I add. Freezing them can also save you from having to throw them away because they turned too brown so quickly after you got them home from the store.
I mostly buy 3 bunches of bananas at a time: one bunch to use over the week for smoothies where I don’t need frozen bananas, one bunch for the family to eat (my kids LOVE bananas!), and one bunch to freeze for later.
Frozen bananas can make the tastiest of treats, like this nice cream!
Freezing bananas doesn’t take long and is fairly easy. I have given you 3 options to choose from, feel free to use them as you please.
Here is option #1:
OPTION 1
Step 1:
Lay down parchment or wax paper onto a baking or cookie sheet.
Step 2:
Peel 4-5 bananas.
Step 3:
Take one banana at a time and slice it into 1-2 inch chunks. I slice the bananas directly on the parchment or wax paper with a butter knife.
Take note of how many slices it takes per banana, as that number will represent 1 banana – so you will want to stay consistent with your slices. I generally have about 20 or so banana slices per banana.
Step 4:
Lay the banana slices you just cut flat onto the parchment or wax paper. Repeat steps 3 & 4 until the entire baking/cookie sheet is filled with banana slices. I can generally fit about 5 bananas worth of slices onto one baking/cookie sheet.
Note: if you freeze the bananas in clumps rather than flat they will freeze together making it hard to separate them later.
Step 5:
Place the baking/cookie sheet in your freezer.
Step 6:
Once the bananas are frozen, you can then transfer them to a freezer safe container or individual baggies for storage until you need them for a recipe.
Here is option #2:
OPTION 2
Step 1:
Lay down parchment or wax paper onto a baking or cookie sheet.
Step 2:
Peel 6-8 bananas.
Step 3:
Lay each banana down onto the parchment or wax paper. Don’t let them touch each other or once frozen they may be hard to separate.
Step 4:
Place the baking/cookie sheet in your freezer.
Step 5:
Once the whole bananas are frozen, you can then transfer them as needed to your blender for any given recipe.
Here is option #3:
OPTION 3
Step 1:
Lay down parchment or wax paper onto a baking or cookie sheet.
Step 2:
Peel 5-6 bananas. Break each banana in half.
Step 3:
Lay each banana piece down onto the parchment or wax paper. Don’t let them touch each other or once frozen they may be hard to separate.
Step 4:
Place the baking/cookie sheet in your freezer.
Step 5:
Once the banana halves are frozen, you can then transfer them as needed to your blender for any given recipe.
Option #1 allows you to use the bananas by the slice if you don’t necessarily need a whole one and allows more room in your freezer since they get transferred to a smaller container once they are actually frozen. Frozen banana slices also blend a bit easier than a whole frozen banana. However, either option works very well.
If you don’t use Option #1, once you are ready to use the frozen bananas I suggest you let them thaw a little bit and break up into smaller pieces before placing in the blender. Depending on the power of your blender you may not need to worry about this.
Do you freeze bananas? What’s your favorite thing to make with them?
This sounds wonderful and so easy! I always wondered how to do this. I feel so bad throwing them away, and we just don’t eat them fast enough around here at our house. Many times, in order to not waste them, I will make banana bread muffins, but we are all trying to lose weight, so that isn’t the best idea right now! LOL! Thank you for this wonderful information and for all of your tips and advice here. You are such a blessing to me! Have a great weekend. 🙂
Hi Cheryl – yum banana bread muffins! So glad this was helpful to you!!!!!! And thank YOU so much!!!! Hope you have a good weekend, too!
