Did you know that avocado is technically a fruit?
Avocados contain saturated, polyunsaturated, and monounsaturated fat, water, potassium, vitamins A, B, C, and K, and many, many more nutrients.
I sometimes use them in smoothies, but did you know their oil has many uses and health benefits as well?
I love using avocado oil! It personally does wonders on my scalp and dry skin (especially feet/heels all year long)!
Here are 8 VERY versatile uses for avocado oil:
1. You can cook with it
If you do a lot of cooking at high heat avocado oil is one of the best oils to use (it’s smoke point is 520° F). It makes a great substitute for butter, shortening, or margarine, if your recipe calls for any of these. It can even be used as a salad dressing.
2. Use it as a carrier oil
If you like to make your own aromatherapy mix avocado oil works very well as a carrier oil before adding in your choice of essential oils.
3. Soothe your eczema
Due to its rich vitamin content, it is highly recommended to those with sensitive skin, problem skin, and other irritations.
4. Anti-aging treatment
Avocados reverse the signs of aging because of their high content in the good fats, vitamin A, and an amino acid known as glutathione (which protects the skin from environmental damage).
5. Sunburn relief
Surprisingly, avocado oil has an SPF of at least 4, but you will not be able to rely on it solely as a sunscreen. However, it can help alleviate the pain of sunburns.
6. Put the shine back in your hair
The vitamin E content in avocados help restore the shine back to your hair. After a good wash and rinse with your regular shampoo and conditioner, use avocado oil to moisturize your hair (from root to tip).
7. Skin moisturizer
Even if you don’t have skin problems, avocado oil still makes a great skin moisturizer for everyday use. For me it also helps relieve the dryness I usually experience after I shave my legs.
8. Arthritis relief
Avocados possess anti-inflammatory benefits, so consuming avocado oil could prove to bring some relief to those that suffer from arthritis conditions.
