Welcome back for Day 2 of the 5 Day “Toss” the Toxins Challenge!
DAY 2 – Oral Care Products
WHY ARE THEY TOXIC?
-can be coated with substances from a chemical family called PFAS or Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances
-is often made from plastic – including virgin plastic and recycled plastic
-can be flavored with many substances, including undisclosed and unknown ingredients. For example, artificial flavors may be any of approximately 700 FDA-approved flavorings/additives.
The ingredients in mouthwash that can be harmful in large amounts are:
-Chlorhexidine gluconate
-Ethanol (ethyl alcohol)
-Hydrogen peroxide
-Methyl salicylate
Many ingredients in toothpastes are synthetics derived from petroleum or from heavily processed and synthesized natural ingredients, which, in their final formulation, are not remotely related to the natural parent compound (e.g. coconut oil), and some may become potentially toxic.
When potentially toxic chemical ingredients are present in toothpaste and mouthwash, they may pass directly and quickly into the bloodstream, even if not swallowed. This is because they can be absorbed through the mucosal lining of the mouth.
SOLUTION:
“Toss” your toxic oral care products & replace them with these alternatives instead:
-natural remineralizing toothpaste or powder
-natural remineralizing mouthwash
-chemical free dental floss
-oil pulling
-tongue cleaning/scraping
-oral probiotics
-make your own toothpaste
Some beneficial ingredients for oral care:
-Bentonite clay provides many trace minerals & binds to and draws out heavy metals and toxins
-Coconut oil has antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties, and is effective against antibiotic resistant bacteria
-Myrrh, cinnamon, clove, tea tree, oregano, rosemary, and peppermint essential oils all have natural antibacterial properties, and invigorate and stimulate healthy gums
-Sweeteners such as erythritol, Stevia, or xylitol will not promote bacterial growth
-Activated charcoal binds and removes staining compounds from teeth
See you tomorrow for Day 3!
