Let’s get straight to the point. I want you to detox your kitchen.
Did you know toxins can include food & color additives, pesticides, irradiated foods, and genetically modified organisms (also known as GMOs)?
Did you also know that these all can be found in your kitchen?
Well, think about processed foods. How many of these items I just mentioned do you think can be found in processed foods?
Processed foods are cheap, convenient, full of sodium, bad fats, sugar, empty calories, and, of course, chemicals. For instance, chemicals known as endocrine disruptors can be found in food additives such as high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), monosodium glutamate (MSG) & Bisphenol-A (also known as BPA, which is found in many of our food packaging). And practically every processed food has some type of food or color additive in it.
If you recall from high school biology, the endocrine system regulates many processes including mood, energy, and sleep.
So, it’s only natural that we feel fatigued, cranky, and restless when eating some of these processed foods.
Foods that are made with GMOs, have been recently linked to such diseases as cancer, autism, obesity, sterility & birth defects.
This information is not to scare you. It’s to inform you.
Inform you of what could be making you unwell.
And you can fix it with better eating habits.
Apologies if this sounds cliche, but smoothies are always a good choice to start with when trying to build better eating habits.
Here are 3 basic smoothie recipes to use to help you detox your kitchen.
A Green Smoothie
The green smoothie contains both fruits and vegetables, specifically green vegetables.
The fruits make it taste sweeter, which can distract you from the fact that you are literally drinking your vegetables.
You can choose any combination you like, but try to have some greens in each one, such as spinach or kale. You can eventually be daring and include such green veggies as Brussels sprouts or even broccoli.
Here is a VERY simple green smoothie recipe for you:
-2 cups spinach
-1 cup pineapple
-1 cup of your choice of unsweetened non-dairy milk
-1 tablespoon chia seeds
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
A Berry Smoothie
If the thought of having veggies in your smoothie turns you off right now, no worries, you can still make a delicious and healthy smoothie by using your favorite combination of berries. We’ll work up to the veggies later.
Most berries, including strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, are filled with antioxidants and a lot of other nutrients. This makes them a superfood and perfect for a smoothie.
Using frozen berries keeps you from needing ice.
Here is a VERY simple berry smoothie recipe:
-1 cup of your choice of unsweetened non-dairy milk
-1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
-1/4 cup blackberries
-1/4 cup raspberries
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
A Cherry Smoothie
Cherries have a ton of nutrition, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Freeze a generous amount of cherries, then add them to the blender along with another frozen fruit, such as kiwi or mango. Some people prefer blending the cherries first, then adding in the second choice of fruit.
Here is a VERY simple cherry smoothie recipe:
-1 cup of your choice of unsweetened non-dairy milk
-1/2 cup frozen dark sweet cherries, pitted
-1/2 cup frozen mangoes
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
