Yes!!! Summer is finally here!
I don’t know about you, but I love road trips and just being out doing…well, stuff!
HOWEVER, it is soooo, so easy to fall out of shape in the Summer. I mean, we travel, we go out to eat, we wear looser clothing – so everything fits during the Summer. BUT, then the Fall comes and what happens? We can’t fit into those warmer, snugger clothes because we ate too much.
Or perhaps we end up sick because we didn’t take proper care of ourselves during the summer – perhaps having a bit too much fun.
No worries though! There are still ways you can have fun and still remain health conscious. Use these 11 simple tips to help keep you healthy all summer long.
1. Practice portion control
Yes, I know…EVERYTHING looks good…especially when on vacation – which makes it much easier to overeat. Even if you go to a salad bar it’s so easy to pile the food onto your plate. Just stay aware of how much food goes on your plate.
2. Watch your beverage choices
Moderation still applies here with regards to your beverages, whether that’s coffee or sugary soda. And just in case you’re wondering, diet soda isn’t better.
3. Exercise on the road
Does your hotel have a fitness center? Is there a gym nearby? Many times you could probably just purchase a guest pass to work out for the brief stay. Or just workout in your room!
4. Stay hydrated
When in doubt water is the best choice. It will keep you hydrated and naturally detox and cleanse your body. Drink one glass of water before every meal. The water will help fill you up and you won’t eat as much. Also, because it’s hot you may need to drink more water than usual.
5. Healthy snacks
Everywhere you turn while on summer vacation and short summer trips temptation will be there. Satisfying your sweet tooth is OK, but don’t go overboard.
Keep healthy snacks in the car to munch on rather than junk food. If you eat 3 (somewhat) sensible meals and snack on healthy snacks in between, you may be able to avoid too much summer weight gain.
6. Stretch
Going on a long ride? Make sure you get out to stretch every couple hours.
7. Stick to a sleep schedule
It might be harder to sleep when you’re away on vacation because you want to see and do everything, but you still need the proper amount for your body to re-energize.
8. Wear the correct sunscreen
Not all sunscreens are created equal. Follow these simple guidelines to make sure you choose the right one for you.
9. Sign up for a race
Visiting any of these places with your kids? Sign up for a race the whole family can do! Even if you don’t have kids you can still find a race to participate in and have the same amount of fun.
10. Pack your natural first aid kit
Make sure you have all the proper first aid essentials before you need it. This way you are not settling on just any convenient store remedy out of desperation.
11. Stress management
On vacation you visit places where there are people…LOTS of people. Find a way to keep yourself calm and stress free so that you can enjoy yourself.
