I have been coloring my hair since high school. I choose the darkest black I can get. About three years ago I started using henna (purchased from Mountain Rose Herbs). Henna is a great product for your hair and all and great natural alternative to traditional hair dyes, but it can get extremely messy!
Henna doesn’t fully absorb into your hair shaft like a traditional color would. It kind of just sits on top. So, whenever you go to comb your hair the henna would flake off similar to how dandruff would.Because of that I went back to traditional hair color.
I was doing well with the color I was using, but came across Shea Moisture’s hair color system. I was so excited! I love their products so I figured why not go ahead and try their hair color.
I ordered it off their website (only $14.99) and couldn’t wait to use it.
Starting off, the packaging is truly above and beyond any packaging I’ve seen (as you can see in the main post image). The products come in a cute little mesh bag and the products are cute little trial sizes to use and keep. These all fit nicely inside the box.
Now, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I actually don’t apply my own hair color. My mother does, since she’s a licensed cosmetologist. Even when I used henna she applied it for me.
So with that said this review is part of her review, too.
Here is what she had to say:
Everything it said on the box it did. It was a good product. As soon as I started applying it I could see the richness and the consistency. It left Serena’s hair shiny and more manageable and soft. Serena has a lot of hair and even one package was enough. It truly is a vibrant rich color system, I could see that as I was applying it. It seemed to have provided enough gray coverage, too. Even being a permanent hair color system it was not as harsh as most permanent hair colors normally are.
OK – here is the rest of my review:
I used the product on Jan 28. I didn’t actually start seeing gray hairs again until about 6-7 weeks later (mid March). These results may vary depending on how fast your hair grows and how often you shampoo/wash your hair. The gray hairs that I saw were due to hair growth. The hair that was dyed previously was still black, so if anything it was just a small touch up of color I needed not necessarily the whole shebang.
Long story short, I don’t see any reason why I wouldn’t use this color system again.
Have you used this hair color system? What was your experience with it?
