The weather is getting to be so gorgeous outside! It’s about time! Our winter seemed to be sooooooo long this year that I forgot what the sun looked like.
Anywhoooo, because the weather’s so nice it’s easier to get the kids outside and moving. Heck, the whole family can get out together. Make it a family fitness event.
But, why do regular activities outside when you can sign them up for something different. Something bold. Something the whole family can do.
Check out these 5 awesome races that are very family & kid friendly!
1. Spartan Kids
You may have heard of the Spartan Races. You know, the races that include obstacles with water, barbed wire, and fire. But, don’t worry, the kid version is far from that. All around the US, Canada, and the UK, kids as young as 4 through 13 complete a set of obstacles – ranging from a half mile to a mile – that include a caterpillar crawl, balance beams, and mud walks. It’s meant to get the kids off the couch and the fun part is all the mud they’ll get into!
If you’re ever at a Disney World or Disneyland Resort make sure you sign up for one of their marathons/half marathons.
For runDisney, runners run through Disney Theme Parks while earning Disney-themed finisher medals. Along with the marathon and half marathon races they also offer Disney-themed kids races (like the diaper dash) and family fun run 5ks, health and fitness expos with guest speakers, product demonstrations, and official race merchandise!
The Biggest Loser RunWalk is a race series inspired by the reality show “The Biggest Loser”. The series is designed to challenge America to get fit. Their races consist of half marathons and 5Ks for adults and for every adult race they have a Kids Fit One Mile Fun Run for children ages 4-12.
Their kid friendly programs and events are designed to be a day for kids to reach their goals and to celebrate their healthy lifestyle achievements with their family and friends.
The Color Run is a 5K un-timed race where the runners are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. The only 2 rules are 1) Wear white at the starting line and 2) Finish plastered in color.
The whole family can do this event as there is no age limit for the kids to participate, whether they are running, jogging, walking, or in a stroller.
IRONKIDS is a part of the (almost) worldwide IRONMAN race series. The IRONKIDS program inspires kids to lead active, positive and healthy lifestyles. Kids between the ages of 3 and 15 participate in a variety of events, including triathlon, aquathlon, duathlon and running races in the days leading up to IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 races. IRONKIDS participate in age-appropriate distances with an emphasis on safety, fitness and fun.
