With the holidays fast approaching I know many of you are probably trying to figure out what you’re going to be able to eat. And the answer to that is food.
No, I’m serious.
You can’t let calories ruin your day, your week, your life. You can’t let holidays, anniversaries, birthdays, and family gatherings get you down because you don’t want to really eat for fear of being bad.
I don’t think any food is bad necessarily. If you eat a piece of chocolate cake everyday, OK…maybe not the best choice. But, would the outcome be any different if all you ate were apples? I think both decisions wouldn’t be the best no matter what the food is. Too much of one thing is too much.
So does that mean you can eat anything? Almost. It’s moderation that’s the key. I hesitate to use the term “backsliding” because it implies you did something wrong. So, think of the term very loosely… so for now I’ll say here are 4 reasons why having your cake and eating it too is OK – OR at least y reasons why you should enjoy what you eat..guilt free.
1) It means you’re human
Humans like to eat in case you haven’t noticed. We have favorite foods that we don’t want to let go even when we found our healthier lifestyles. But, who says those feelings will ever go away? Maybe some foods you lose a taste for, but not all. Why? Ummm…again, because we’re humans…not robots.
2) You can’t say NO all the time
Yes, you can say no sometimes. But, if you think you’re going to say no to your favorite food all the time for the rest of your life, you could be setting yourself up for failure. That is not going to work and you may find yourself in front of a drive-thru or the refrigerator at midnight wondering how you got to that point. It’s OK…
3) Just let it go sometimes
Rather than obsess about it, sometimes you just got to let it go. Sometimes you can find yourself in a situation where all you’re exposed to are not-so-ideal food choices. If that’s the case, don’t worry about it. You can always control your portion size and adjust your exercise activity to fit the situation.
4) Moderation is good
Like I said before, moderation is good, with all foods. Whether it’s an apple or a piece of chocolate cake. So, yes you can have your cake and eat it too!
If you’re still feeling guilty about what you eat, then you will feel better after reading this post!
What’s one food that you could never give up? Mine is chocolate!
